So it’s been a week and you’ve barely had time to sleep. Yes ladies we work, take care of the kids, even our overgrown child, “AKA” Husband. Who has time for sleep, right? Well, it's just as important to get 8 hours of sleep a day, just as it is to shower on a hot muggy day where temperatures are in the triple digits and you’re wearing all black! WE NEED SLEEP! It’s important for our overall health and mental wellness, but it’s easier said than done.
Well, a girlfriend of mines told me she started doing yoga in the evenings and noticed a difference in her quality of sleep. So here I go, researching and signing up for Yoga classes. I would say after my 6th week, I noticed improved sleep habits, I went from 5 ½ hours of rest to 7 ½ -8 hours daily. I've improved my alertness, mental stability and a better mood overall. Hell, I was dabbing all the way to work !
BFM Tips To Getting 7-9 hours of rest can lead to:
•Improving your mental well-being and decreasing depressive symptoms
•Having a sharper memory and better power of recall
•Neutralizing your mood due to better emotional regulation when rested
•Making better decisions – unconscious (aka asleep) processing influences your decision making
•Better focus during the day
•A literally clearer mind – your brain removes bad toxins from itself while you sleep
Let me share a few restorative style yoga poses I practiced before bed that help improve my sleep and calmed the nervous system. There are some suggestions that certain postures may be helpful,” says Johns Hopkins sleep expert Anastasia Rowland-Seymour, M.D. “But the benefits are more due to its meditative properties.”
1. Basic Rule- Breathe in, Breathe Out
